Columbus Chill 16U National Dominate to NAR Tier II Kickoff Championship

PLYMOUTH, MI — The Columbus Chill 16U National team put together a dominant weekend of hockey, going a perfect 5-0 on its way to capturing the NAR HockeyTown Tier II Fall Kickoff 16U Seider Division Championship, held September 18–20 in the Detroit area.

The Chill were impressive at both ends of the ice throughout the weekend, outscoring opponents 27-3 over five games while posting two shutouts. Columbus finished the tournament with a +24 goal differential and a perfect 100% penalty kill.

The Chill opened tournament play Friday with a 4-0 shutout over the Highland Park Falcons before rolling to a 7-1 victory over the Detroit Ducks later that day.

Saturday brought a 1-0 forfeit win vs West Michigan Varsity Green. In replace of the game, the Chill played an exhibition game against West Michigan Varsity White where they skates to a convincing 6-1 victory. 

Columbus continued its impressive run Sunday morning with its most convincing performance of the weekend, defeating the Nashville Jr. Predators 7-0. The victory sent the Chill into the championship game with four straight wins and just one goal allowed.

In the championship, the Chill faced West Michigan Varsity White and finished the weekend the same way they started it — with another strong team performance. Columbus earned a 3-1 victory to complete a perfect 5-0 tournament and bring home the championship.

The championship adds another strong result to the Columbus Chill National program as the 16U group continues building toward the Mid-Am State Playoffs and its ultimate goal of earning a berth in the USA Hockey Tier II National Championships.
